Although the new location is not far from Bakhmaro and we use Bakhmaro as a stopover during the journey, the area is different than in Bakhmaro.
The hut is on a ridge on 2,400 meters and the slopes we ride are between 2,755 and 2,100 meters. The terrain is therefore high alpine. For the most part we move in the wide open slopes above the tree line. But that also means that on days with a snowstorm we can also have downdays. The next treeruns - that Bakhmaro is so famous for - are far away.
Since not all peaks can be reached with the Cat and we do not want to force the "last push", it makes sense to have freeride skis with a touring binding. Adjara is our backcountry location.
Since 2019 we have our own mountain hut in a remote alp village in Adjara. Acctually it is an old alp hut we renovated. We constructed a new basement with toilets, a sauna and shower. On the first floor we placed the kitchen with a small dining area and a cozy livingroom with panoramic windows. Three basic sleeping rooms are under the roof. The sleeping rooms have bunk beds for up to 12 freeriders.
In our hut is just enough space for one group including guide and the team of snowcat-driver, mechanic, kitchen and housekeeping crew. It is a basic, quite and cosy place.
The alpine hut is very remote and is exposed at 2'400 meters. It is our own hut and thus also reflects our own philosophy.
The surrounding runs have big mountain potential but the next treeruns are far away. So it is definitely a fair weather destination. There may be a downday in a snow storm.
In order to experience the full possibilities of the location, it is necessary to strap the skis or board onto the backpack or put on skins. So a bit more backcountry experience than
Bakhmaro.
In addition, the logistics are difficult and time-consuming. It takes a bit of adventure and serenity to stay in our alpine hut.
The culinarical well-being is well taken care of. We have a local team of a chef and kitchen assistant who prepare fresh food every day.
In the morning there is a rich breakfast including muesli, fresh fruit, egg dishes, homemade bread and local specialties. We take a lunch box for lunchtime so that we don't lose time during the
day. On bad weather days we can always come to the hut and warm up with a hot soup or Burano - a local hot cheese dish.
Typical Georgian dishes are then cooked in the evening. Georgian cuisine is hearty and varied. Meals come on the table in bowls and plates, so everyone can take what they like. That way we also
take care of individual diets.
