Snow Report

A short but intense snowstorm brought us a good half meter of fresh snow over the weekend. Unfortunately, there was also strong to stormy winds. Accordingly, the risk of avalanches increased significantly in the short term due to the fresh snow problem.

From Monday onwards there was sunshine and very good visibility. This caused the snow to settle and the risk of avalanches to decrease again.

Towards the end of the week it clouded over again and on Friday there were isolated snowflakes.

The groups arrived in Bakhmaro with the approaching storm and were able to spend the first day of skiing in the forest. With the acute risk of avalanches, safe play was the order of the day. The return journey from Maximundo was then made in a safe convoy, as visibility had reached practically 0 meters.

The Wolfsbett group stayed in Bakhmaro for the first two days so that they could ski in the forest. On Monday, with the help of a second cat, they went to the hut, the entrance to which had to be shoveled clear first.

The groups in project X had to be patient. The access is not easy even in good weather and in a snowstorm the journey becomes time-consuming and difficult. Once the sun came out, however, there was pure powder for the rest of the week.
